Clan Fraser of Philorth
Clan Fraser or Fraser of Philorth is a lowland Scottish Clan originating in Aberdeenshire Scotland. They have a common lineage with the Clan Fraser of Lovat, but are considered a seperate clan with their own chief. The Frasers of Philorth clan is considered to be the senior of the two clans because they are direct descendants of Sir Alexander Fraser of Touchfraser.
The Fraser family originally immigrated to Scotland from France after the Norman conquests in 1066. The name Fraser is believed to have been derived from the French terms Fredarius, Fresel or Freseau.
The motto of Clan Fraser is “All my hope is in God” ,and, The crest features a flourish of strawberries leaved and fructed, on a mount, Proper.
The historic seat of the clan is Cairnbulg Castle, originally known as Philorth Castle. The Castle was built in the 14th century. It was destroyed in the Scottish Wars of Independence and eventually rebuilt by the Fraser family in 1380. The Castle is still home to the Fraser family.
This line of clan Fraser is a direct descendent of Sir Alexander Fraser who fought along side Robert the Bruce. After Robert’s victory the Fraser’s where granted lands in Aberdeen, Kincardine and Forfar.
The Clan Fraser Society of Scotland & the U.K or CFSSUK was formed over ten years ago with the goal of bringing together people that share Clan Fraser Ancestry and to preserve the historical and genealogical records of the clan.
