Kilbirnie Castle
Kilbirnie Castle and Manor House are the substantial remains of a 15th century castle and 16th century manor house located in North Ayrshire, Scotland. The castle was originally built by Thomas Crawfurd in 1470 and was later destroyed by fire in 1757. The manor house wing was constructed in 1627 and is notable for its unusual projection and turrets. The grounds of the castle once contained pleasure gardens, a sandstone quarry, and a curling pond. The castle and estate have passed through several families including the Barclays, Crawfurds, Lindsays, Boyles, and Knoxs. The castle is now in ruins and the manor house wing is largely destroyed, although some outbuildings remain.
