Clan Livingstone/Clan MacLea
Clan Livingstone or Clan MacLea is a highland Scottish clan originating in the Argyll district of Scotland. The clan is officially known as Clan MacLea by the Lord Lyon but the name MacLea has been anglicized to Livingstone by much of the clan. It is believed that the surname was derived from MacDhunnshieibhe which means chieftain of the mountain.
The Clans motto is Ni Mi E MA’ Urrain Dhomh, which translates into, I shall do it if I can. The clans crest features a saint holding a staff in his right hand and a cross in the left. The slogan in the crest is Cnoc Aingeil which means hill of fire.
The historic seat of the clan is Bachuil on the Isle of Lismore.
The clan was Officially recognized by the Lord Lyon in 2003 and was granted membership to the Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs.
The Global Clan Society was established in 2009, however there were some regional societies that were formed previous to that year. In 2009 the society’s charter was approved by the current chief of the clan.
