Dunrobin Castle
Dunrobin Castle is a stately home in Sutherland, Scotland and the family seat of the Earl of Sutherland and the Clan Sutherland. It has origins in the Middle Ages, but most of the present building and the gardens were added by Sir Charles Barry between 1835 and 1850. It was used as a boarding school for seven years, but is now open to the public. The castle’s history includes being captured and retaken by various clans, and narrowly escaping capture during the Jacobite Rising of 1745. The castle has undergone multiple expansions and renovations, the most recent being a remodel in the Scottish Baronial style by Sir Charles Barry in the 19th century.
