The Gordon Highlanders
Of the types above represented, the first on the left is that of a drum major in full dress. He wears a broad cloth shoulder belt with gilt lace and badges, and carries the imposing silver mounted staff. The second figure is that of a bandsman in full dress except for the feather bonnet. Next is shown a private in drill order with white jacket. The remaining figures are officers, the first in full dress. The gold tassels of the sporran are exchanged for two black tails in less ceremonial orders of dress. The second is a drill officer. When mounted or in any order in which the kilt is not worn the field officers wear a hilt on the claymore similar to the ordinary sword hilt . The black garter buttons are peculiar to the Gordons, and they also wear a black line in the gold lace .
