Abercorn Castle
Abercorn Castle was a 12th-century castle in Scotland. It was originally owned by William de Avenel and later passed to the Clan Graham and then the Clan Douglas. It was held by the Douglas family from 1400 until it was captured and destroyed by King James II of Scotland in 1455. After its destruction, the castle’s lands passed to the Clan Seton. The castle’s remains are now located within the grounds of Hopetoun House and have been excavated. The site is now a Scheduled Monument, which means that it is protected by law and considered to be of national importance.
