Balcombie Castle, Scotland
Balcomie Castle is a castle located in Fife, Scotland. It was built in the 16th century, with a six-storey tower at the northwest corner and a large square building attached to its southeast corner. The castle has a long history, with the estate being in possession of the Hays, Leslies, and Learmonths at different points in time. A stone on the arched courtyard gateway bears the arms of John Learmonth and Elizabeth Myrtoun and the date 1660. The castle was visited by Mary of Guise in 1538, but it is believed that the buildings she was received in have since been demolished. The castle is currently no longer occupied and is in a state of ruins.
