Craig Castle
Craig Castle is a castle located in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It is described as being “quite French” in appearance, with smooth pink harled walls, gunloops, and a closed wallhead walk. It features coped crowsteps on the wing gables, a corbelled parapet and turret on the east side, a surviving yett (a hinged metal grating used as a gate or door), and a rib and groin vault to the entrance. The east wing of the castle was built in 1767 by John Adam and features a rusticated gateway with reinserted coats of arms from 1667. The central wing, dating from around 1832, is by Archibald Simpson and features Jacobean plasterwork. The west wing was built in 1908 and is plain and flat roofed. The castle is surrounded by the magical Den of Craig and is considered one of the most magnificent castellated mansions in Scotland.
