Cowthally Castle
Cowthally Castle, also known as Couthalley, is a ruined L-plan castle located near Carnwath, Lanarkshire, Scotland. It was constructed in the 12th century and was rebuilt several times over the centuries, including in 1375, 1415, 1524, and 1586. It was passed to Sir John Somerville through marriage in 1317, and was described in detail by James Somerville in his family history. It is believed that James IV visited the castle for a wedding in 1489, and that Mary, Queen of Scots stayed there on August 24th, 1563. The remains are now protected as a scheduled monument.
