Erchless Castle
Erchless Castle is an L-plan castle located in northern Scotland, near Struy, Highland. It was built in the 13th century by the Bissetts, and later came into the hands of the Chisholms in the 15th century through the marriage of Alexander de Chisholme to Margaret, Lady of Erchless. The current building dates back to about 1600 and was altered in the 19th century with the addition of a Baronial-style wing. After the death of the last surviving member of the direct line of Chisholms, the estate was sold in 1937 to Highland Estates Ltd. In 1946, the Erchless Estate and castle were bought by Baron Siegfried Nikolai von Stackelberg and his wife Baroness Phyllis von Stackelberg. The estate continued to change hands until it was inherited by Sir Lawrence Robson’s son, Erik Maurice William Robson, in 1982. The castle is protected as a Category B listed building.
