Castle Grant
Castle Grant is a Z-plan tower house located in the Highlands of Scotland. It was originally named Freuchie Castle and was the main stronghold of the Clan Comyn, but passed to the Grants in the 15th century. The castle was renamed Castle Grant in 1694 and underwent renovations in the 17th and 18th centuries, including the addition of stone heraldic beasts and animals carved by Ralph Rawlinson and paintings and gilding by John Anderson of Aberdeen. The castle was occupied by the Jacobites during the Jacobite rising of 1715 and 1745. It was restored by Sir Robert Lorimer in 1912 and later restored again in the 1990s. The castle was seized by the Bank of Scotland after its owner, Craig Whyte, failed to make mortgage payments and was sold to Sergey Fedotov in 2014. The castle is allegedly haunted by the ghost of Lady Barbara Grant, who is said to have died of a broken heart after being imprisoned in a dark closet for falling in love with the wrong man.
