Dalcross Castle
Dalcross Castle is a restored 17th century tower house located in Highland, Scotland. It was originally built by the Frasers of Lovat in 1620, but passed to the Mackintoshes soon after. The castle was used as a mustering point for Hanoverian troops in 1746 and was abandoned and fell into ruin before being restored and reoccupied in the 20th century by descendants of the Mackintosh lairds. The restoration was probably done by W L Carruthers in 1896. It was listed as a category A building in 1971, and in 1996 was bought and modernized by Maxwell & Company Architects. The castle has two offset wings joined at the corner, with many gunloops and shot-holes in the walls, and many windows still have their iron yetts. The castle is surrounded by gardens enclosed by a coped wall of red rubble.
