Brisbane House
Brisbane House was a location and former estate in North Ayrshire, Scotland. It was located in the Brisbane Glen or Noddsdale, 1.5 miles northeast of Largs. The house was originally built as Kelsoland in 1636, but the name was changed to Brisbane in 1671 after the family who moved in. The house was the birthplace of Sir Thomas Makdougall Brisbane, who served as the Governor-General of New South Wales and after whom the Australian city of Brisbane was named. The house consisted of three storeys and an attic, and was extended with two curving wings in the 19th century. The roof was removed around 1939, and the house was demolished a few years later. A memorial to Sir Thomas Brisbane lies nearby, and the remains of an observatory built by him, which is said to have been one of the first built in Scotland, can still be seen.
