Clan Polson of Creich

The Clan Polson of Creich is a proud and storied Scottish clan with a rich history dating back to the 1400s. The clan’s roots can be traced back to the early days of Scotland when the Lord of the Isles defeated Angus Dubh Mackay at the Battle of Dingwall and proposed to set him free in exchange for his sister Elizabeth as a wife and a grant of territory. The Mackays were soon hemmed in by their enemies, the Murrays and Mowatts of Caithness, who began to make raids on their territory.

The Mackays eventually won out and Thomas Mackay, who succeeded as the head of the clan, was declared an outlaw. However, the Murrays, who had two lovely daughters, offered Thomas’ brothers Morgan and Neil their daughters and a large share of their brother’s land if they captured Thomas. This they did, and Thomas was handed over to the Royal authority and executed at Inverness.

King James granted three charters to the Mackays, and in the second of these, Neil Mackay was granted “All and whole our lands of Creich, Garloch, Daane, Moy-Zebblary, Cronzcorth, Tultim-Tar-wach, L^ngort, and Amayde, with the perti-nents.” Neil left three sons, Angus, John Bain, and Paul, who became the ancestor of the Polsons.

The Polsons settled at Creichmore and were known for their bravery and strength in battle. They were also known for their hard work and dedication to their land, and the name of Polson became synonymous with the East of Sutherland.

Over the centuries, the Polsons continued to spread and make their mark on Scotland, and today, the Clan Polson of Creich is a proud and vibrant community with members all over the world. The clan is proud of its rich history and heritage and is committed to preserving the traditions and values that have been passed down through the generations.

Whether you are a proud member of the Clan Polson of Creich or simply have an interest in Scottish history, this clan is definitely one to watch and admire.
