Adair Tartan
Clan Adair, as a sept of Clan Maxwell, traditionally doesn’t have a distinct tartan of its own. Instead, members of Clan Adair typically wear the tartans associated with Clan Maxwell. This is a common practice among Scottish clans and their associated septs, where septs often adopt the tartan of the larger clan with which they are affiliated.
The Maxwell tartans, therefore, serve as the tartans for Clan Adair. There are a few variations of the Maxwell tartan, including the standard Maxwell tartan and a muted version in the Old and Rare range. The Maxwell tartans are characterized by their unique patterns and color schemes, which are symbolic and carry historical significance for the clan.
This practice underscores the interconnected nature of Scottish clans and their heritage. Tartans are a significant part of Scottish culture, representing family lineage, regional affiliations, and historical ties. For clans like Adair that are septs of larger clans, wearing the tartan of their parent clan is a way of honoring their shared history and cultural heritage.
