Armstrong Tartan
The Armstrong Tartan is a cherished symbol of the Armstrong clan’s rich Scottish heritage. This tartan features a distinctive pattern, typically consisting of shades of blue, green, and black as its primary colors, adorned with thin white and red stripes interwoven in the design. The tartan serves as a proud representation of the clan’s historical ties to the rugged and often turbulent Scottish Borders region. The Armstrongs, known for their warrior spirit, played a prominent role in the Border Reivers, a period marked by raiding and lawlessness along the Anglo-Scottish border. Despite the clan’s dispersal in the 17th century, the Armstrong Tartan remains an enduring emblem of their identity and legacy. It has been worn by notable figures such as Sir Alexander Armstrong, an Arctic explorer, and Neil Armstrong, the first human to walk on the Moon, who carried a piece of the Clan Armstrong tartan during his historic lunar mission. Today, the Armstrong clan continues to celebrate its heritage through an active clan association, and the establishment of the Clan Armstrong Trust in 1978 further ensures the preservation and recognition of their proud history and traditions.
