Roysth Castle
Rosyth Castle is a fifteenth–century ruined tower house located within the boundaries of Rosyth Naval Dockyard in Fife, Scotland. It was built around 1450 by Sir David Stewart and was enlarged and extended in the 16th and 17th centuries. In 1572, the castle was attacked by men from Blackness Castle and in 1651, it was occupied by Oliver Cromwell‘s army. Over time, the stonework of the castle was re–used in other structures and the courtyard buildings were almost completely destroyed. In 1903, the castle became Admiralty property, and although plans were made to restore it, they never materialized. Half a mile away is a sixteenth–century dovecot, which is a scheduled monument.
