Rossend Castle
Rossend Castle is a historic building in Burntisland, Scotland that dates back to 1119. The present building is largely from the 16th century, with a 13th-century basement. It was rebuilt by Peter Durie of Durie in 1552 and has been owned by various individuals and organizations throughout its history. It has been used as a residence, a military stronghold, and a place of refuge. The castle was visited by Mary, Queen of Scots, and was captured by Oliver Cromwell’s soldiers in 1651. It was owned by the Wemyss family in the 17th century and was later acquired by the Town Council in 1952. The building was saved from demolition in 1972 and was bought by an architecture firm in 1975, who restored it and used it as their office. In 2019, it was bought by private owners who have restored it. It is a category B listed building.
