The surname Adair is a proud part of Scottish history and heritage, tracing its roots back to Robert Fitzgerald De Athdare, a man of noble birth who was forced to flee Ireland and start a new life in Scotland. Upon arriving in Scotland, Robert changed his surname to Adare and became known as Robert Adare. He quickly made a name for himself as a fearless warrior, killing the pirate Currie and presenting his severed head to the court of Scotland, earning him the prestigious Adair crest.

From those humble beginnings, the Adair surname has gone on to become one of the most revered and respected in Scotland, with a rich and storied history that has been passed down through the generations. Clan Adair is known for its courage, loyalty, and strong sense of family, values that have helped the clan endure through centuries of political and social upheaval.

One of the most famous members of Clan Adair was James Adair, an American pioneer and historian who wrote one of the earliest and most comprehensive accounts of the American Indians. His work remains an important source of information about the native cultures and traditions of North America, and has helped to preserve a valuable part of our cultural heritage for future generations.

Another notable member of Clan Adair was Sir Robert Shafto Adair, who was created a baronet in 1838 and was a direct descendant of the house of Kinhilt. Sir Robert was a man of great importance and influence, and his legacy lives on today through his descendants, who continue to carry on the proud traditions and values of Clan Adair.

Clan Adair is a tight-knit community, with members scattered all over the world. Despite the distance, however, the bond between Adair members remains strong, and the clan holds regular gatherings and events to celebrate its heritage and keep the flame of its history burning bright.
